COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS

Updated: Aug 17, 2018

I am so blessed. I have loving parents who provide everything I need, a warm home, a phone, a healthy family, privilidges that other girls my age don't have, and the list goes on and on. This really dawned on me while I was on vacation. We don't realize how lucky we are until our eyes are opened.

Think about what you did today. Did you go shopping, or to the movies? Have you taken a warm shower, or ate breakfast? How about watching a movie? There are so many blessings that we have that we don't notice. We know that there is suffering in many countries and we are lucky to have such privilidges. What we don't realize, is that there are many people in america suffering too.

When I was on vacation, my dad played a video based on a distant friend of mine. It was about her and her current journey through cancer. Her parents talked about the pain that they and she were going through. They explained when she was diagnosed with cancer and the difficulties that she was enduring because of it.

Once the video was over, I was very quiet. I can't hardly imagine what she and her family must be going through. I went to bed and I thought for a while about her, about how it must feel. Then, I started thinking about the many kids like her who were experiencing the same thing. She is just one of the many suffering, battling through. I started to cry. I felt so guilty because I was on vacation while she was in a hospital.

That night, I realized why it is so important to count your blessings. We are so lucky to be healthy. You never know when something might change, so appreciate what and who is in your life. Be daring, smile often, say I love you, laugh, dance, hug your parents, help someone out, be you, because you never know when it might change.

If you are reading this, I want you to close your eyes and pray with me.

Dear Father,

I know that you have a plan for everybody. I know that you are in control. I thank you for all of the blessings that you have given me: Health, Family, Friends, Privileges. I pray for those who are going through a tough patch in life. They are hurting, but Father I know that you will be there and with them through it all.

In your name we pray,

Amen
